JIANGSU HALLEXPO SHANGHAI | 2009 The design of Jiangsu Hall let the visitors experience the province in all its diversity, its rich traditional past but also its ambitious and progressive future. The design and the exhibition concept will project how the modern future of Jiangsu society is based on the sophisticated lifestyle and cultural achievements of the region that has been cultivated over the past centuries and decades. It will show the relation - between modernisation and preservation, innovation and tradition, the community and the individual, work and leisure and between globalisation and national identity. A spatial arrangement of vertical and horizontal free formed tubes covered with fabric surfaces and a sophisticated light design in combination with the imagery of modern projector technologies, sensitize the visitors and spark their curiosity. The vertical structures form space on the ground level, designed as an abstract garden similar to the sophisticated gardens of the region. This Garden stands for the outstanding tradition and the rich cultural aspects of the JiangSu region. In the upper level horizontal connections melt the different „tubes“ together and provide the exhibition space for the harmonious interaction of JiangSu people and their individual views on the cities in the future. The tubes symbolically connect the past and the future, generating spaces in which the visitor will sense the harmony of future living.
