LITERATURHAUS STUTTGARTSTUTTGART, GERMANY | JULY 2002 As part of the redevelopment scheme of the Bosch site in Stuttgart, the production and administration headquarters of the Robert Bosch Corporation, which was founded around the turn of the century, a catering establishment was realised in a listed building dating back to 1911 (the first reinforced concrete frame construction in Baden-Württemberg). Here, the Literaturhaus Stuttgart registered association (e.V.) also had its function rooms. The aim was to link the Literaturhaus with the restaurant, bar and bistro on the ground floor. Other than official dinners, readings and smaller events are to be held in the restaurant. In addition, the venue had an exterior terrace joined to the central plaza of the ensemble between Bosch site and “Liederhalle” (‘song hall’). The floor plan which is based on the existing column-grid is designed with large furniture modules which are primarily seating objects, but which can also be used as cloak room, bar or buffet furniture. Loose pieces of furniture were added to this primary organisation creating a second level of furnishing. The lighting is partly directly integrated in to the furniture, and partly between the “islands” of the plaster board ceiling.
