SAUTER BEAUTYPOOL

STUTTGART, GERMANY | SEPTEMBER 2000

Our client had been in charge of a well-established hairdressing business in the Tanner’s quarter of Stuttgart for the past ten years and as the Creative Director for Los Angeles based company Sebastian was responsible for worldwide shows and promotional events at the same time. Our client was of the opinion that the concept of the classical hairdressing salon had been overtaken and desired a larger venue.

A retail space of 330 sqm in size was found on the first floor of an old textile factory. The design approach was to break with the traditions of shop design creating a sequence of spaces. Linked to the hairdressing area there are rooms for cosmetic treatments and massages offering a variety of services similar to a day spa.

The separation of old and new played a large role in the design approach, which was conducted formally, as well as concerning the colour scheme by variation of shades. With assembly of the individual elements the tectonic aspect became apparent as a character-defining feature. The furnishings were assembled as space-creating elements and – as this is the most transient and moveable part - it was coated in coloured laminated plastic boarding according to the overall graphics of the whole shop equipment.
