VW OFFICE CENTREANTING, CHINA | OCTOBER 2007 The design concept for the central administration centre of the Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Company provides a functional, economical and clear building structure. Public and internal function areas are arranged distinctively; accessibility and orientation are clearly defined. Public, semi-public and access-restricted areas are on different levels. The office areas are flexible: the economic space arrangement, the supporting structure, the lighting concept and the technical building equipment permit different, flexible and reversible office use and economic realisation of the concept. The external areas consist of low parapets and large areas of glass. The central element of the Office Centre is a light-flooded central thoroughfare. This provides adjustable space for exhibitions, events and central installations, such as meeting rooms and staff canteen on the ground floor. The floors situated above are reserved for informal communication. Positioned cube structures enliven the central hall. This high structure forms the start of the office thoroughfare. It is a landmark of the company and the automobile city of Shanghai.
