LECH IN ARLBERG | DECEMBER 2005

Lech, the famous winter resort in the Arlberg area, is one of the few places still aware of its unique identity and traditional charm to the growing winter sport industry. To the majority of its visitors, the village appeals as something magical. Built in 1593, the Omeshorn mansion is one of the oldest houses in the surrounding. In 2004 the decision for an extremely sensitive and complex overall refurbishment was taken to create four holiday units, which should provide a surrounding with a maximum of authentic and traditional atmosphere.

The top apartment includes an open roof structure and has an amazing panoramic view over the valley of Lech. Because of its geometry and structure the roof framework was kept as an independent element and has not been touched. Indeed, the horizontal space underneath was defined consciously through a wooden cornice for the effect of a clear separation of two space segments.

Several elements, such as kitchen, bathroom with sauna, fireplace etc. were designed using a concise selection of materials, surfaces and colours to reflect on the one hand tradition and craftsmanship, on the other hand this background was combined with modern elements for the benefit of exciting contrasts.
