THE DESIGN ANNUAL 2008 | Inside: Showtime FRANKFURT, GERMANY | JULY 2008 CONCEPT “The Difference is Gaggenau”, following the brand’s claim the stage for the star chefs Juan Amador and André Hellwig was designed referring to the studio setup for a TV Show. The surprising fact was that the visitor approached the stage from the backside, allowing a view on the reversed side of the scenery. The backside effectively becomes the façade, the invisible becomes visible for the visitor. Access and insight are given through three openings in the setting, making the visitors curious to find out what’s happening inside. REVERSED LIVE COOKING The star chefs are the leading actors on stage, fascinating the audience with their demonstration of the so-called “molecular kitchen“. Once in a while, the stage is being prepared for the show by the staff in a manner that the visitors can already feel that the show is about to start. Suddenly the light goes down and the spot turns on. The chef starts to prepare delicate food in front of the audience, acting as if they were in a TV Show. After the demonstration, the light goes back to normal and so do the people. Informal conversation accompanies the tasting of the food and the chefs talk about the Gaggenau kitchen appliances.
